Had the opporitunity to photograph personal trainer and fitness model Dana Isaiah in Los Angeles, CA. Because of his athletic background, we decided to go with a basketball themed shoot.

#Flashback Friday: Amber

Had the opporitunity to collaborate with Amber of Sports + Lifestyle Unlimited agency  and MUA Christian The MUA in Los Angeles, CA for a fitness test shoot. I really wanted to incorporate color for this shoot so I pulled clothing that coordinated with the background colors already in the studio.

In The Quiet Moments: Joanna Evans

“Training is a test of mind, muscle, and a swimmer’s commitment to be better, faster.”

Jo-Day2-656

I had the opportunity to go to Austin, TX and photograph Bahamian swimmer and Olympian Joanna Evans at the University of Texas. This experience was definitely one for the books because it was my first time not only photographing, but watching a swimmer’s training session. They began their session with a 12-minute swim to warm up, I can’t even doggie pedal for 2 minutes straight 😂! From the outside looking in the workout looked intense, but Joanna made it look so effortless, and you can tell she enjoyed every minute of it.

“In the Quiet Moments” is my latest photography series featuring professional track athletes. After having the opportunity to document 3x Olympian, Gold & Bronze Medalist, DeeDee Trotter during her retirement year, I began to notice the quiet moments that these olympians face every day that many don’t get to see. We watch them compete in the largest stadiums, positioned on the blocks in complete silence before they take off, but rarely see the “behind the scenes” that has gotten them to that point. This series is a closer look at these moments.

In The Quiet Moments: Warren Fraser

“Back at it…”

Feb20-473

I’ve known Bahamian Olympian and 100m runner Warren Fraser for a couple of years now, but only recently I had the chance to watch him do work on the track. Before the olympics last year, he sadly got injured during a meet overseas. This year he is back at it, and it’s been so inspiring watching his come back. I got the chance to go to Athens and watch him put in some work at UGA. Can’t wait to see what he does in London!

Track & Field Championships and Trials

So this is a big week for a lot of athletes, because it is the USATF 2017 Outdoor Championships as well as the National Trials for a lot of countries, which will determine which athletes will be qualified to compete in the IAAF World Championships in London in August. This week is essentially the first stop to what everyone has been training for all year long. I just wanted to take the time to wish everyone luck and to thank them for allowing me to capture some of these priceless moments.

“Love yourself enough to live a healthy lifestyle”

The first time I worked with Ashani Roberts was in Miami, and this time we got to reconnect for a test shoot in LA. As always, it was a blast working with her to capture some fitness lifestyle images.

In The Quiet Moments: Leevan “Superman” Sands

“No Matter How You Feel.” Always:

1. Get Up,
2. Suit UP,
3. Show Up
4. and Never Give Up!

LeevanSands2_0673

I had the opportunity to document 4x Olympian, Bahamian Triple Jumper Leevan “Superman” Sands in Auburn, AL. During his training session we joked about him being “old” in this league, 35 to be exact, but truthfully you wouldn’t be able to tell his age watching him perform.

Also, if you happen to be in the Auburn area this summer, make sure to stop by Snobiz and Sand Pit Snacks for some amazing summer treats!

#Flashback Friday – Robert Hamilton

“The man who is swimming against the stream                                                                      knows the strength of it.” – Woodrow Wilson

I decided to go back to my college days when creating this series. I fell in love with color in college and always found a way to incorporate colored gels into my portraits with athletes. My professor also told me that anything that can be done in photo shop can be done in camera, and that always stuck with me. After creating some cool portraits with the gaussian blur and some filters, I decided to challenge myself and create some long exposure portraits all in camera. I contacted Robert Hamilton, because he is one of my favorite muses in Atlanta and we always seem to make magic!  Robert-2 copyRobert-21 copy

#WCW: Marae A

Got the opportunity to collaborate with the beautiful Marae A for a lifestyle fitness shoot in Atlanta. Atlanta’s weather has been somewhat bipolar, but luckily we got some nice weather for this quick outdoor shoot rocking the Adidas Alphabounce.

“This isn’t for everyone, you have to be mentally strong.”Maya1-228

I’ve photographed professional high jumper Maya Pressley a couple of times this past year, and every time I am inspired more about her journey. When it comes to track and field, its more than just being physically in shape, your mental state plays a huge role in your performance as well. During this session we spoke about the challenges of having a “virtual” coach, and how it really is a mental game where you have to convince yourself to put the work in, since there isn’t someone physically over your shoulder telling you what to do every day. I was beyond motivated after this session!Maya1-11Maya1-462

#Flashback Friday – Brett Alexander

“Court is in session”

With the NBA playoffs in the mix I was inspired to do a basketball shoot. Had the opportunity to collaborate with Brett Alexander, and got the chance to play around a little bit more with long exposures and colored gels. I find myself going back to my college days and finding ways to challenge myself and my creativity. I stopped looking to find cool photoshop graphics and filters and decided to challenge myself to master this technique all in camera.

In The Quiet Moments: Steven Gardiner

“To succeed in your mission, you must have single-minded devotion to your goal.”

StevenGardiner1-104A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to go to Orlando and photograph Bahamian Olympian, 400m runner, Steven Gardiner who has been breaking records this year leading up to London. Although the Florida heat was no joke, watching him run was such a calming experience because his form is so graceful and fluid. It almost looks effortless for him, when in reality it is really hard work. I can’t wait to see the records he will break in London.StevenGardiner1-397

Atlanta Georgia Relays II

Day 2 of the Atlanta Georgia Relays 2017 held at Langston Hughes High School was a blast. Special guest included Olympians Natasha Hastings and Shaunae Miller.

Day 2 highlighted the youth finals competitions from the previous heats of Day 1, as well as olympic development section featuring professional athletes and olympians in both the outdoor and field events.

Even had the chance to run into some familiar faces.

Atlanta Georgia Relays

Memorial Day weekend kicked off with the Atlanta Georgia Relays 2017 held at Langston Hughes High School. This track meet featured athletes from countries such as Jamaica, Bahamas, Trinidad & Tabego, and many more. Every age category was represented, from youth ages 10 and up, to olympians, and masters.

In The Quiet Moments: Jeffrey Gibson

“Alis Grave Nil” – “Nothing is to heavy for those who have wings”

JeffDay2-959

I had the opportunity to go to Raleigh, NC to photograph Nike Athlete Jeffrey Gibson, who runs the 400 meter hurdle for Team Bahamas. I’m alway inspired (and exhausted 😂) watching the hard work that every athlete puts into practice. After his training we went for sushi and I got to hear more about his story on how he stumbled into running hurdles. Can’t wait to watch him compete in London in August!

Time To Get Back

As you may have noticed, it’s been a very long time since I’ve posted on my blog. I kept telling myself I would get back to it, and already it’s May 2017. But after talking myself out of it and telling myself to wait for the right time, I decided to just start! So much has happened since last year, so much art was created, and I was blessed to work with so many amazing people.

This year I am more focused than ever, I’m happy from deep down in my soul, and I’ve just been enjoying this journey of being an artist and an entreprenuer. Stay tuned to see everything I’m working on, as well as some throwbacks that you may have missed.

If there’s anything you all would specifically like to see, such as behind the scenes, lighting tutorials, etc, comment below. Thank you again for being on this journey with me! 😁

#WorkOut Wednesday Elvis Burrows

Had the opportunity to watch and document Bahamian Olympian, Elvis Burrows as he competed in the 50m Freestyle at Gulliver Prep this past weekend for the win in 23.11 secs.
